Description
This file includes a complete lesson plan and multiple activities for the short story “Wine on the Desert” by Max Brand. These activities will provide an anticipatory set, assess comprehension, and apply literary devices as well as study vocabulary and grammar in context.
Included in these activities for “Wine on the Desert”:
→ The anticipatory writing activity. Students will recall a time they struggled with aspects of friendship. (This does not include an answer key, as all questions are opinion based.)
→ A reading quiz —twenty questions. The quiz has 12 multiple questions (each one has three possible answers) focusing on comprehension and literary devices. It then has eight character questions where students will match a character with a description. Use it alone as an after-reading quiz or include it in a larger test. Answer key included.
→ A vocabulary activity. This covers ten vocabulary words from the story. Students will use context clues to find the definitions and parts of speech. Answer key included.
→ A grammar activity. Using mentor sentences, students will identify the parts of speech in context. Answer key included.
→ A graphic organizer. Students will track motivation of a character and draw conclusions.
→ A complete lesson plan. I included an editable lesson plan for “Wine on the Desert” that outlines how I teach this short story.
ALL of these activities for “Wine on the Desert” are in editable and non-editable formats.
These activities are pictured in the thumbnails.
