Description
This fall narrative writing activity asks students to write about their memories of the fall season through their five senses. By focusing on the five senses, students naturally organize their paragraph(s). Plus, they’ll be working on sensory details and other narrative writing components.
This fall narrative writing activity includes:
√ An editable lesson plan:
• A list of standards addressed in the lesson.
• Five days of lessons that walk through the writing process. Teaching ideas and methods included.
• A descriptive writing prompt.
√ Narrative writing activities:
• Writing process student sheet.
• Four task cards AND a one pager for brainstorming about the five senses and
memories dealing with the autumn season. Use either set or both!
• Two student drafting sheets—use for differentiation.
• A list of revision and editing questions for students.
• Two final draft forms: includes a cover sheet and notebook paper. Digital version
included.
This narrative writing assignment is a wonderful way to teach students the writing process, and it has tools to address the process. By using the five senses, students can concentrate on describing a memory from the autumn season in an organized manner.
This fall narrative writing activity takes me about a week to teach and includes everything I use when teaching the lesson. I have taught it with my remedial sophomores, and also with my middle school students. If you need a quick “print and teach” fall narrative writing activity, this will meet your needs. You’ll be able to work on sensory details and great descriptions with your young writers.
